Happy New Year! Many of us spend this time of year to reflect on our successes (and failures) of the past year. The holiday break is also a great time to step back and develop a new strategic vision for the upcoming year. Often many of us place our focus on what could have been instead of thinking about future possibilities.
I recently read John C. Maxwell’s newest book “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Your Potential“. One theme discussed was the power of creating change through proactive choices. Choices lead to outcomes… Some good, some not-so-good. In his book, he referenced a quote that reminds us that we can make good choices after bad ones:
“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, my friend, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending” – Carl Bard
As parents, we often tell our children to “make good choices” as we send them off to school in the morning or into world. Lately we have simplified this to “make choices”. Sometimes the best lessons learned are from our choices that end in less than favorable outcomes.
Looking ahead to the New Year, what choices can you make to create a new ending? As Carl Bard reminds us, you cannot fix the past however you can change your future. Wishing you and your family a peaceful, prosperous New Year!
